Shark Tooth Island

Shark Tooth Island is a dredge island in the mighty Cape Fear River, and one of our other favorite spots...

For over 50 years people have been going to this island, and every day the tides and mother nature bring more and more sharks teeth on to the shore. Once you find one you are totally hooked and you can't stop looking for them, it's a lot of fun for kids and adults alike, the adults tend to get more serious about it...or competitive with one another about who has either found the most or who found the largest shark tooth of all. Most are pretty small, but there are definitely good sized ones there as well, and occasionally you can hit the jackpot...

The shark teeth here are great, don't get me wrong, but  some of the fossils and rocks that you will find here can be even more exciting than the teeth!

Shark Tooth Island is a low tide spot to travel to, it is also located in the Cape Fear River, so these trips need to be planned around the tides and the weather.
